Quotes for the Soul

God is not an idea or a definition that we have committed to memory; he is a presence which we experience in our hearts.

Contemplative Prayer

We often long for deep and connected intimacy with God and yet our experience of prayer doesn't always satisfy. Sometimes it seems like hard work, and at others as if that deep connection of God is something to yearn for but cannot be found.

About Contemplative Prayer

The medieaval English mystic Julian of Norwich wrote that, The best prayer is to rest in the goodness of God, knowing that that goodness can reach right down to our lowest depths of need.1

Contemplative Prayer, long known in the history of the church, but often not familiar within our contemporary church life, allows us to put aside both our exterior and interior noise, and to become aware of and attentive to the presence of God which surrounds us.

There are quite a number of Contemplative Prayer forms including: Meditation, Contemplation, Lectio Divina, Centering Prayer, Sitting Under Story, Mantra, Meditative Reading, Journaling, Body Prayer, The Examen.
